Getting Real Interviews at Job Fairs

Standing out at a Job Faire can make a difference in your search. Job Fairs are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a SF Bay Area Job Fair in January, 10 companies as showing up, and Dice has 82 job faires scheduled for this year across the States.

How do you rise above the crowd at a Career Fair? The competition can be noteworthy, but you can help yourself stick out from the gang with advance planning. At AA-Careers, we have a simplified step-by-step process to prepare. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, investigate the companies that are going and pick your objectives. Use the internet to research the companies that are there ahead of time. Go to their internet sites and see if they have their job openings posted. Pick a sane number to target, and get ready to spend an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than 8 in a day, and four or five is a much more reasonable target. For each hiring company, you want to know: key product lines, recent news, and executive names. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You will end up with with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job openings on the web, read them to see what the hiring manager is looking for. Create a mapping of your achievements and skills to the prerequisites of the job. Make the nomenclature match. If the hiring company calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The accomplishments should be written in the style of the hiring organization.

Third, create a ‘thumbnail sales pitch’ for each likely organization/job combination. Write down a 60 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat out loud describing why you are a special prospect for that job. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the team from the company at the job kiosk.

Fourth, modify your resume for each position. The objective on your resume should exactly match the job you’re want. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job description. Especially at a Job Fair, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be simple to see that you’re a match based on your resume.

Fifth, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each spot - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a intelligibly tagged folder. Keep them in a lightweight briefcase or folio.

Finally, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress well and be fittingly groomed. Avoid strong cologne or perfume…use any eau de cologne or fragrance meagerly, if at all.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

Reaching a Client before Notice of Default
Friday July 10th 2009, 10:42 am

I get calls every day from Short Sale agents that ask me how they can get in touch with clients that are currently 30,60,90 days late on their deed and have not incurred a Notice of Default yet. The primary matter is Notice of Default listings tend to have a low closing rate. The reason those listings tend not to convert advantageously is because once the client data goes public they are overloaded with phone calls and mail. Another reason is that nearly all of the time the client is so far along in the foreclosure process they are already half way moved out and have given up on redeeming their house or credit rating.

This is where our function comes in to relieve the topics named above. Our company has the ability to receive listings of clients as they have missed a payment, instead of once an Notice of Default has been published. If you reach a borrower at this stage, they are excellent candidates for a short sale. The borrowers have just neglected their 2nd or 3rd mortgage payment and they need to make a determination before long if they want to be able to keep their house and credit. It is up to you to help these clients to make that choice and show them the benefit of a Short Sale or Loan Modification.

Presentation Folders

A presentation folder is generally a pocketed folder to keep loose leaf documents together neatly for a client. Usually printed on nice, thick, sturdy, paper stock but to cut corners thin will work just fine. Presentation folders are marketing tools to help with presenting a business or company to target clients during meetings or orientations. They come in many different types for varying purposes.

Some companies choose to use the manila folders. This being very plain and to get an edge on your competition, I would use company colors, logos and statements on the front, to personalize it. There are different types of materials you can use as the folder. Of course, heavy stock paper as mentioned above or plastic, which is a bit more durable. Ring binders, which have 3 ring holes to keep the papers securely in the folder, are another option. I would use 3 ring binders if you have a lot of papers to store. That way it is easier to keep them organized and there won’t be a chance of dropping and scattering the papers later.

Whether you have two, a few, or even all your marketing materials, attractive and professional looking pocket folders will make the difference when your potential clients look at your company.

Internet Marketing Thing Is worth it!
Wednesday April 22nd 2009, 6:13 pm
Filed under: Making Money, Marketing Stuff

I recently finished an Info product and in it, I touched on why Internet Marketing is one of the best careers a person can possibly have. There’s no boss, no set hours and you can make an unlimited amount of money, among other reasons.

Can Internet Marketing be very stressful? Yes, it can be for some people, but the stress of being a stock broker or being a Doctor can be tremendous. If you’re a stock broker you have people’s livelihoods in your hands and it is very dependent on your actions and the stock market is completely out of your hands. If you’re a doctor you have people’s lives in your hands, it’s pretty tough to get any more stressful than that.

When people are all stressed out about creating a website or writing a product. Just put it into perspective. Compare it to the stresses of other jobs and it’s really nothing to stress about.

Yes, dealing with people online can be stressful, but compare that to dealing with people in other ways. Think about dealing with customers on the phone. I would rather have someone type in all caps that they are mad at me as opposed to be yelled at over the phone.

I used to work in sales for Best Buy when I first got out of college and I worked right around Christmas. I remember feeling so sorry for the people who handle customer service.

Here are some people that just take abuse from people. A lot of times it wasn’t even their fault. They don’t make the products, they don’t decide the prices etc. and yet they are taking a verbal beating from people. I heard some people tell them things that if I were them, I would of probably rung their neck, haha.

People that are negative about Internet Marketing are either clueless or just venting. Don’t let people like that get you down. I always say that you should surround yourself with positive and successful people.

Now, I do talk to plenty of people that aren’t making any money online, but that’s usually just to help them out. The people that are my online friends are all successful marketers. Not only do I get to interact and learn from them, I also get great advice on what works for them. It also keeps me positive and upbeat.

So Little Time, So Many Real Estate Gurus
Tuesday January 20th 2009, 6:50 am
Filed under: Making Money, Marketing Stuff, University Of Real Estate Brokering

Count on it: By tomorrow this time, there will be more info about real estate investing posted on the internet than there is right now. It seems like there are now more real estate “gurus” than regular people - and the number of blogs, forums and websites devoted to real estate investing are more numerous than the sands of the sea.

And - no surprise here - many things you’ll find online are at least confusing and sometimes downright dishonest. So considering that state of affairs, here are some ideas about some of the real estate investing resources you’ll find out there. Important: We do not pretend to pass judgment on any of these people or resources - that’s your job.

(As a quick aside, I have found one particularly good real estate investing website that’s completely free. Check it out when you get a moment.)

* Bryan Ellis is an expert in marketing and real estate who focuses his website on helping real estate investors to understand how current events affect the real estate market. Ellis’ blog - http://realestate.BryanEllis.com - stands out because it is very news-oriented and sparks intense debate among its readers.

* Gerald Romine has an interesting software package for real estate investors that helps them calculate profit and loss and does a lot of paperwork for them automatically. While the software is definitely expensive, it does have nice features.

To varying degrees, these three people are already well know to real estate investors. Yet being famous doesn’t necessarily translate into honesty or integrity. The reader is encouraged to check out these people more closely.
