Home security systems are one of the most necessary features for any home today. Alarm systems are more technologically advanced than before. Many home security systems allow you to arm and disarm your system from your cell phone or a simple and easy-to-use key fob similar to the ones used on modern vehicles. Most all insurers provide discounts to homeowners who maintain monitored security systems. Home security systems not only help keep your home and possessions safe, but also your family. Monitored alarm systems are valuable in that they provide the ability to automatically detect problems, such as a fire and send help to any type of emergency you may have and get you the help you need when it matters most.

Carmakers are bounded in stretching the Hummer frame by U.S. legal code. These days Hummer limo Dallas are frequently provided on a smaller and more efficient H3 version. Nearly all people choose a Hummer as it sets a panache that is recognizable. A stretch Hummer can accommodate about 10 to 15 people with ease. Hummer limousines are more substantial and supply a better and more stable ride than {small smaller|lighter|less subtantial} “car-based” limos. Unlike smaller limousines Hummer limos provide huge interiors, which can be designed richly. Prom limo buffs and party in a limo aficionados pick out a Hummer limousine because there is more room for fun and frolic, while other limos might feel a little more cramped. Before hiring Party or Prom limousines, you want to delve deeply into the basic details. Most important locate a Hummer Limo Service Provider that is sanctioned and is properly insured.

A Short History of Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
Friday December 24th 2010, 9:18 pm

The global positioning system was made to help military personnel during the hostilities between the members of the North American Treaty Organization (NATO) and communist Russia in the 60s. As luck would have it, the technology has been adapted for use by the public since the 1980s.

These days, a global positioning system (GPS) has become an expected feature on most mobile phones.

Now, a host of commuters rely on gps systems to get them to their destination. In fact, the majority of premium cars have a satellite navigation system included.

Satellite navigation is essential at sea and in the air too. This enables anybody with the use of GPS to discover their velocity and longitude and latitude, anyplace on the planet with astounding precision. Drivers can employ integrated or portable Gps systems to plan the best route, check out detours to avoid traffic jams and with extra software loaded get live traffic reports and rest stop locations. GPS has been employed by a tremendous range of users. Anyone who might need to double check where they are (from mountaineers to sales representatives) or to find a place or a person (from miners to ambulances) should use GPS to make their job less complicated. Naturally, not all uses of GPS are serious, geocaching is the one of these and is now played on every continent. The game is a sophisticated version of hide and seek, internet sites like opencaching.com publish co-ordinates encouraging players to find a hidden stash.

Let’s not overlook the emergency service, who can utilize the system not simply to get to an incident more rapidly than ever before but also to accurately report its co-ordinates and allow follow-up teams to find the area promptly. When something goes amiss at sea or if weather conditions deteriorate rapidly navigation systems often make a huge difference to the outcome of a search and rescue operation. Scientists and engineers also have uses for GPS navigation receivers, in scientific experiments, and in recording geological activity such as seismic activity, quakes and plate tectonics. They can use developing GPS technology to help them in monitoring climate change and other natural systems. Fundamentally, GPS navigation can now be used to develop maps that include every detail and are interactive.

Recordable DVD Formats Explained
Thursday June 17th 2010, 1:52 am

Picking your way through the ton of information available on recordable DVD
formats can be a nightmare. To help you out, we’ve done our best to distill it into
this summary.

There are five recordable versions of DVD; DVD-R for General, DVD-R for Authoring,
DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW. None of the formats is fully compatible with the
other although there are drives which will read, and in some cases write to more
than one format.

DVD-R for General and DVD-R for Authoring are essentially DVD versions of CD-R.
And DVD-RW is a DVD version of CD-RW. All three formats can be read in standard
DVD-ROM drives and in most DVD video players. The difference between DVD-R for
General and DVD-R for Authoring is that DVD-R for General is a format intended for
widespread consumer use and doeasn’t support ‘professional’ features such as
piracy protection or duplication in mass duplicators. The Pioneer DVD-RW drive
which is the most popular PC device for writing to DVD uses the DVD for General
format. And as as the case with CD, DVD-RW is essentially the same as DVD-R
except that it can be erased and written to again and again.

DVD-RAM is slightly different as it is a sector based disc which mounts on the
desktop of a PC when inserted into a drive. Files can then be copied to it in the same
way as any other mounted media. Some single-sided DVD-RAM discs can be
removed from their caddy and inserted in a DVD-ROM drive which will then be able
to read the content of the disc.

There are DVD video recorders which use the DVD-RAM format. This enables themn
to pull off clever tricks like timeshifting - where you can watch the beginning of a
programme you have recorded while you are still recording the end on the same
disc.

DVD+RW is the newest format and not supported by the DVD Forum, the body
which sets the standards for DVD. However, it is supported by some of the biggest
electronics and computer manufacturers, and is therefore likely to stick around.

It is also the format used by Philips in its DVD video recorders. Despite not being
authorised by the DVD Forum, DVD+RW is claimed by its supporterd to be
compatible with more DVD video players than DVD-R and DVD+RW writers are
found in PCs from quite a few manufacturers.

In early 2006, things are set to get even more complicated with the introduction of
two new formats, HD-DVD and Blu-ray, but that’s a whole other story…

Homeowners all over the world are constantly looking for fresh ways to make their home renovation simpler and less costly. Bathroom renovations tend to be the main focus during home renovations, thus it is only natural that builders begin their renovation plans there. More and more renovators are realising the power of the world wide web and realising the true value of it. The Internet offers renovators the ability to thoroughly research taps, fixtures and fitting, buy them online and enjoy the convenience and time saving.

Shopping online is very different compared to traditional shopping, there is no hassle in dealing with customer service and do not have to worry about additional delivery charges. Alot of manufacturers that are currently in the online space offer discounted wholesale prices and reduced delivery charges. Also, manufacturers such as dorf, which advertises their caroma line of bathroom fixtures online, also offer multimedia demonstrations that give clients a clear picture of functionality, as well as an eye to aesthetics, with bathroom comparison images that help fit customers to the ideal fixtures for their bathroom setting. There is also a complete physical description of each product, detailing dimensions and mechanical elements. The dorf website also breaks down their products into categories, attractive to both commercial and residential applications. Aside from bathroom taps, they provide information regarding shower fixtures and other accessories- meeting a wide variety of needs depending on your preferences.

Lastly, its important to keep in mind that such websites are designed with user friendliness in mind, and generally include a support hotline for both potential customers and prior customers with practical questions. Given that remodeling can often be a prolonged and pricey project for anyone, the online approach can help make this process more manageable. Instead of relying on limited choice and prices at the local store, turn online instead!

Windscreen Replacement Service
Tuesday December 22nd 2009, 5:56 am

Replacing or fixing a broken windscreen can be an easy or tedious task of owning a car, depending on the approach you take. Windscreen replacement is not an easy task; it involves strength, a pair of steady hands, and a willingness to follow instructions carefully.

All vehicles are different, but in general, taking out a windshield involves loosening the urethane that supports it in position, then raising it out its position with caution. Once this step is done, using the a utility knife the left over urethane must be cleared away to make room for the new windscreen. The new windscreen is then glued into place, and secured with bolts. When replacing a windscreen, it is very important to ensure that the new urethane seal is put in place properly, because any leaks can cause wind to get into the vehicle, totally ruining the experience of driving.

You do not always need to replace your windshield if it has a chip, it may be possible to repair it instead of replacing it. Windscreen repair is an simple process. Repair kits can be found in almost every auto parts store, and involves sealing the chip with resin. The resin the clear and does not leave a mark, and once the procedure is finished, it is nearly impossible to notice that the windscreen was ever chipped. The repair kits can frequently be unreliable for repairing large cracks, however, and can sometimes make the problem worse, needing a replacement. This job is often better left to professionals.

If you decide to let a professional handle your windscreen repair or replacement, you may be delighted to find that this is one of the few auto repair jobs that does not require your car to be brought to a garage. Many companies offer mobile repair services, which can be completed in a matter of an hour or less, even if the windscreen needs to be replaced entirely. Mobile windshield repair services are able to perform the service at the comfort of your own home, or while you are at work, making it an extremely convenient one.

Computer Support
Friday May 22nd 2009, 1:17 am

Lets assume you are already using computer systems running some version(s) of Windows. One thing is a given, if you own computers and you are running Windows; you will have problems. This is nothing against Microsoft Windows. It’s just that writing a computer operating system that will work with thousands of programs running on a thousand different computers is an impossibility. So the best thing you can do is prepare for when a problem occurs, and it WILL happen at the worst possible time.

If you are running a business and your computer systems are critical to your operation and assuming you are not already a computer expert, your best support solution is to enter into a support agreement with a qualified service organization. This is also one of the reasons why you want to use PC’s running Microsoft Windows inspite of the inherent problems. No matter where your business is located, you will usually find a service organization within a 25 mile radius of you that can support the Windows platform.

Look in the phone book, check them out. Talk to them. Many times you can tell what type of service they are going to provide just by talking to them. Have them visit your place of business, familiarize them with your business tools and practices. Make sure they are familiar with what your support requirements are. If it is a one person shop, find out who supports them when they go on vacation or get sick and make sure their replacement is familiar with your systems, as well.

Check out their service agreement. First of all make sure, everything is in writing. Some points to look for in any service agreement:

* Guaranteed response time. Be realistic here but at the same time be real clear on what your needs are. The quicker the response you require, the more it will cost.

* On-hand replacements. If your printer fails can they at least replace it with something similar until the repair part arrives in three weeks? Will they stick around long enough to make sure the replacement printer works with your existing systems?

* Contractual obligation to find a solution, even a temporary solution. The more specific you are here, the less chance there is for misunderstanding.

* Periodic maintenance. Many problems can be avoided if periodic maintenance is built into the program. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” goes double with computer systems. And make sure it is clear what they do and how often they do it. Keep in mind your Windows will run a LOT more reliably with a periodic maintenance program in place.

For the last twenty years I have been the IT service manager and lead engineer for the top computer dealer in my area. I also spent nine years as a manager, network administrator and helpdesk administrator for several Fortune 500 companies. Adding USB 2.0
Thursday May 21st 2009, 11:05 am

The process of adding USB 2.0 ports took no time and the backup system is mighty fast. If you add USB 2.0 ports with a PCI port card, then you’ll still have your USB 1.1 ports, so whatever is plugged into those can stay.

Rob Foster from the UK sent me a port PCI USB card since he had a few extras. Thanks again, Rob. When installing hardware or devices, most situations require loading the software FIRST before doing anything else. This one didn’t - so be sure to check this out before attempting to put the card in. Before starting the process, be sure you have an open PCI slot, a standard slot that has one big connector with a small one behind it.

Turn off the computer, if it is not already. Take off the CPU case. How this is done depends on the CPU. If you lost or misplaced the manual, I’m sure your computer manufacturer has info online. Google it, if needed. Slide the PCI card into the open PCI slot.

At this point, you can cover up the CPU, but some people leave it off until turning on the computer and checking all is OK. When turning on this little feller, it found the new card right away and worked. I didn’t even have to run the software. The card came with four USB ports, one of which holds the backup system. It took under two hours to back up the computer (get size), faster and easier than the tape back up.

Well, it only took a year or so to get around to adding the USB 2.0 ports as that’s about how long the back up system has been sitting here taunting me.

Maintaining your Mac
Wednesday May 20th 2009, 10:49 pm

Mac and the OS X are very stable and reliable. However, if you want your Mac to work perfectly you have to maintain it properly. Most of the errors and glitches that happen to your mac are caused by incorrect permissions table. Mac OS X as a UNIX based system has a UNIX way of handling the files. UNIX as a multi-user system has a special way of manipulating file access. (More about file permissions you can read here). When the new software is installed on your Mac or you did some other system tweaks, it’s very likely that permissions will mess itself up so you wont be able executing applications or it may happen that your mac is acting weird. The easiest way of fixing permissions is by using Mac OS X “Disk Utility” which can be found in /Applications/Utilities folder.

Fixing permissions is recommended before and after installing any software to your mac as well as installing any software updates. There are various software available on the Internet to help you keep your Mac maintained and in a “good health”. Software such as Onyx or Cocktail are doing a great job by not only repairing and verifying permissions for you but also cleaning the internet history, cache, temporary files and running optimization scripts.

If you for some reason are unable to boot your system, before you do anything like re-installing the OS, try pressing command + S on the system boot-up and it will get you into console mode. Type in /sbin/fsck -fy and hit enter. Do that couple of times until it doesn’t say “System Modified”. Before you use “fsck” command, I advise you to open terminal, type in man fsck and read the manual page carefully. Not all software errors are as easy to fix by using methods above. Some errors and system misbehaving can indicate serious hardware failure so if the problems persist, the best is to take your mac to an authorized Apple service for a check-up.

Car Audio Capacitors: Why You Can’t Do Without Them
Sunday May 10th 2009, 12:25 am

I’ve heard the question asked many times before, ‘Do I really need a capacitor?’ Before answering that question I ask, ‘Do you have a high powered system?’ ‘Does it require sudden power bursts?’ ‘Is your amplifier being robbed of power?’ If the answers to my questions are yes, make every effort to connect a capacitor to your car audio system.

A capacitor is a bit similar to your car battery; it stores electrical energy. But unlike a battery it doesn’t produce its own power, it simply stores it. A car audio capacitor will help you get the most from your amplifier. It will store power for release on demand, delivering it to your amplifier just when it’s needed.

Your car amplifier requires a lot of power to play loud music, especially when there’s lots of heavy bass. Without a capacitor your amplifier will be robbed of power by parts like your lights, engine, and air conditioner.

So what happens when your car audio amplifier doesn’t receive enough power?

A common occurrence is dimming lights. In such a situation the light will follow the beat of the music. The light will dim each time a heavy bass note sounds. If you were to turn off the lights, your car stereo system would suddenly sound louder and the music would be cleaner.

Your amplifier is simply trying to use more energy than the electrical system can supply. If a capacitor had been present there would have been enough energy to power your amp. That electrical energy would have already been stored.

When you want to reduce headlight dimming, improve bass response, and increase the power of your amp, a stiffening capacitor is a must. Equipped with capacitor and an adequate power supply, your system will get every bit of current it needs. Voltage drops will be a thing of the past.

With so many brands available online, it’s easy to find a capacitor that meets your needs. You can choose from popular brands like Phoenix-Digital, Blitz-Audio, Kole-Audio, Pyramid, SoundStorm, Lanzar, Power-Acoustik, Pyle, Legacy, Nitro-BMW, SPL, and Volfenhag. No longer will your car amplifier be hungry for power.
